Where to stay in Osaka: choose the area by who you travel with
Pick who you travel with and your main plan to see which Osaka area fits: Namba, Umeda, Tennoji, Shin-Osaka or Universal City, with airport and day-trip routes.
Choose an area for your trip
Pick two answers and one area is left. If you pick nothing, you see every case.
Couple or friends · dining and nights in the city
Namba
Namba is the access station for Dotonbori, so the way back after an evening there is short. Kansai Airport is served by the Nankai Rapi:t and Airport Express.

Namba, or Tennoji if you use JR to and from the airport
Namba has the shortest evening routes. If you have large luggage or a stroller, or stairs are hard for someone in your group, check the lift route from the station exit to the hotel first.
What to check by travel partyCouple or friends · day trip to Kyoto
Umeda and Osaka Station
You can choose Hankyu Osaka-umeda or JR Osaka Station, whichever suits that day's destination. The Kansai Airport limousine also stops on the Osaka Station side.

Umeda and Osaka Station, or Shin-Osaka if you will also use the shinkansen
Staying near the station where the train to Kyoto without a change starts makes the way back easier. Check room capacity with the number of adults and children entered.

Go from Umeda or Namba
By USJ's official guide it is about 11 minutes from Umeda and Osaka Station and about 13 minutes from Osaka-Namba. Pick the area to suit the evenings of your other days.

Universal City if USJ takes two days or you need a midday rest
Easy to get back to your room and rest. About 40 minutes by Itami Airport limousine, about 1 hour 10 minutes by Kansai Airport limousine. If USJ is only one day, Umeda or Namba work too.

Shin-Osaka
A Tokaido Shinkansen station, so luggage moves are short on your first and last days. Osaka Station and Umeda are about 7 minutes away (per a hotel's location page).

Area by area

Namba
- Suits
- Couples and friends who eat and walk in Dotonbori in the evening. Namba is Dotonbori's access station, so the way back to the room after an evening out is short. Kuromon Market is about a 2-minute walk from Nippombashi Station.
- Airport and day trips
- Nankai's Rapi:t and Airport Express run straight to Kansai Airport, and the fastest Rapi:t takes 34 minutes. Nara is about 35 minutes from Kintetsu Osaka-Namba on a regular train, basic fare 680 yen.
- Trade-offs
- For Kyoto you go up to Umeda or take a Kintetsu limited express via Yamato-Saidaiji, about 60 minutes. Namba has a different station for each company, so check which station the hotel you are considering gives as its reference.

Umeda and Osaka Station
- Suits
- Groups making several Kyoto day trips. The Hankyu Kyoto Line runs from Osaka-umeda to Kyoto without a change, and JR Osaka Station is next door.
- Airport and USJ
- The Kansai Airport limousine stops on the Osaka Station side and takes about 60 minutes. The Itami Airport limousine takes about 30 minutes. USJ is about 11 minutes by USJ's official guide.
- Trade-offs
- If you will eat in Dotonbori often, you ride south and back every time.

Tennoji and Abeno
- Suits
- Groups using JR to and from Kansai Airport. HARUKA stops here, and the Kansai Airport Rapid Service also comes straight to Tennoji.
- Airport and USJ
- The Itami Airport limousine takes about 30 minutes to Abenobashi Station (Tennoji), and USJ is about 13 minutes by the official guide.
- Trade-offs
- The Midosuji Line links it to Namba, but the way home is longer than from a hotel right next to Dotonbori.
Shin-Osaka
- Suits
- Groups moving by shinkansen toward Kyoto, Nagoya or Tokyo. On your first and last days you do not have to drag luggage across the city.
- Airport and city
- HARUKA stops here, and the Itami Airport limousine takes about 25 minutes. It is about 7 minutes to Osaka Station and Umeda (per the Hotel Hankyu RESPIRE OSAKA location page), and about 16 minutes to USJ.
- Trade-offs
- It is more a transit base than an area to spend the evening in.

Universal City
- Suits
- Groups with children or parents who spend two days at USJ or need to rest at the hotel in the middle of the day.
- Airport
- About 1 hour 10 minutes by Kansai Airport limousine, about 40 minutes by Itami Airport limousine.
- Trade-offs
- Every trip into the city takes longer. From Namba and Tennoji you change at Nishikujo, and from Umeda you may also change, depending on the train. If USJ is only one day, going from Umeda or Namba works too.
Airports and day trips
- Kansai Airport
- Namba is served by Nankai, Tennoji and Osaka by JR HARUKA or the Kansai Airport Rapid Service, Shin-Osaka by HARUKA, and Umeda and USJ by the limousine. HARUKA stops differ from train to train, so check the train you plan to take.
- Itami Airport
- By limousine it is about 25 minutes to Shin-Osaka, about 30 minutes each to Osaka Station, Namba and Abenobashi, and about 40 minutes to USJ. It can take longer depending on road conditions.
- Kyoto
- Umeda is the easiest. If you will also use the shinkansen, Shin-Osaka is a candidate.
- Nara
- The simplest way is Kintetsu from Namba. These regular trains run on the basic fare, without a limited express ticket.
What to check by travel party
- Couples and solo
- Decide by where you spend the evening: Namba for Dotonbori, Umeda for the Umeda restaurant district and Kyoto.
- Several friends
- If three of you share one room, the bed layout comes first. See the comparison of beds in an Osaka triple room and a three-day route based on Namba and Umeda.
- Families with children
- On the booking screen, enter each child's age and check the room capacity. With a stroller or large luggage, check the lift route from the station exit to the hotel. Osaka Metro gives barrier-free entrance routes for each station.
- With parents
- Fewer changes come first. JR-West wheelchair assistance has to be arranged in advance, and for other railway companies check their assistance information beforehand.
