Decide where the first night ends

Landing late in Hong Kong means choosing the last journey of the day. Sleeping next to the terminal gets you into bed sooner, but pushes the transfer into the city to the next morning. Going straight to Tsim Sha Tsui asks for one more effort that night, then spares you from repacking after a single night. The right choice depends on how much time you have in the city and how tired your group will be.

If you travel with children, or with parents who find a chain of transfers hard, a night at the airport is worth considering. For a short stay, keeping one hotel in the city can be simpler. Compare the whole journey to the room, including the luggage and the walk from the station, not just the train time. The time your plane lands is not the time you will be ready to leave the terminal.

Don't plan on the last train before you land

The MTR timetable in force from 13 September 2026 lists the last Airport Express from the airport towards the city at 00:48. The first departure is at 05:54. The published journey times are 22 minutes to Kowloon and 24 minutes to Hong Kong Station, and they cover the ride between stations. They do not include immigration, baggage reclaim or getting from the station to your hotel.

A flight due to land around 23:00 therefore does not mean you will make the last train. Wait until you know how quickly you are actually moving through the airport before counting on that departure. If you plan to sleep in the city, also prepare a plan for after the last train: where you will leave from, your exact destination, and whether the vehicle can take your luggage. The official pages describe buses and taxis, but we have not checked a specific overnight route with its times and stops here.

Check the day's service with MTR or the operator concerned. Do not turn a train time into a promise of when you will reach the front desk. One interchange and a few streets to walk weigh more when everyone is pulling a suitcase and mostly wants to sleep.

Regal Airport Hotel: keep the first evening short

Regal Airport Hotel is at 9 Cheong Tat Road, Chek Lap Kok, and has an enclosed, covered link to Terminal 1. That closeness suits a first night meant for rest. It does not replace checking the walk from your arrival terminal and how the hotel handles arrivals after midnight. Do not confuse it with Regala Skycity Hotel: the similar names belong to different properties.

For a family, pick a specific room category. The official site lists, among others, Superior, Family Triple and Family Quadruple. A photo, or the word "family" on its own, does not confirm the beds, the children's ages accepted, or the terms for an extra bed. Enter the real travellers and check the description of the offer you choose. Without dates and your group's details, we cannot confirm a rate, availability or occupancy for your booking.

The trade-off shows up the next day. You repack, travel into the city, and may wait until your second room is ready. Weigh that transition against the rest you gained the night before. If your first plans in the city start early, ask yourself whether this extra booking really makes the trip easier.

The Mira: unpack once for the whole stay

The Mira Hong Kong is one option for staying in Tsim Sha Tsui. Its official address is Mira Place, 118–130 Nathan Road. The hotel quotes a walk of under three minutes from Exit B1 of Tsim Sha Tsui station along Nathan Road. That is not the Airport Express Kowloon Station; from Kowloon Station you still need to plan the trip to the hotel.

This option lets you keep the same room for the following nights, provided you have booked one continuous stay on the terms you want. Its drawback is the late transfer right after landing. Ask the hotel to confirm that it knows your arrival time, and have the address ready before you set off. A front desk that is open does not automatically mean a booking will be held if you arrive late without telling the hotel.

The photo shows a City Room from the hotel's gallery, with a bed, a green armchair by the window and a bathroom behind glass. It does not guarantee this layout for every room. If several people share, check the beds, the occupancy and the bathroom privacy in the category you actually book.

As of 16 October 2026, the official site announces that a second phase of room renovation is expected to be completed around mid-October, with possible daytime noise on some floors. We have not verified that it has finished. A separate notice about a Vibes event on 16 October also warns of louder music until midnight in courtyard-facing rooms. That notice covers that date and those rooms; it does not describe every room all year. Ask about your own nights if quiet matters.

After midnight, which date do you book?

Take an example: the plane lands on the evening of 7 November and you reach the hotel at 1:00 on 8 November. To use a room straight away, you would usually book the night that starts on 7 November. A booking that starts on 8 November may only give you the room in the afternoon. The calendar changing does not give you a right to enter the room in the early hours.

This example helps you prepare the booking; it does not replace the terms of your own offer. Tell the hotel your real date and time, your flight number and the booking reference. Ask for written confirmation that the room will be held after midnight, and what happens if you are delayed. Paying in advance does not, on its own, settle whether a late arrival could be treated as a no-show.

Regal generally states check-in at 15:00 and check-out at noon. Trip.com lists check-in after 15:00 and check-out before noon for The Mira. The terms of the product you choose take priority. The next morning, an early check-in and leaving luggage before check-in are two separate services to confirm.

The next day, stay on one side of the harbour

After a night at the airport, keep the morning for the transfer. The Airport Express to Kowloon is followed by the trip to the hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui. If luggage storage has been confirmed, you can then eat in the neighbourhood and take a break. Avoid a visit booked very early: it would make changing hotels more stressful.

In the afternoon, leave room first for settling in and resting. A walk along the waterfront is then enough for a first outing. The Star Ferry pier, the Clock Tower, the promenade and the Avenue of Stars sit along the same stretch of the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront. Choose the parts that interest you, then plan dinner and the way back. This is one possible order, not a timed schedule.

If you went straight to the city hotel, the luggage transfer disappears from this morning. You can get up later and reach the water after a rest. There is no need to add Hong Kong Island and several viewpoints on this first day. Keep the way back close at hand so you can cut the outing short if tiredness returns.

In rain or strong wind, shorten or postpone the walk. A meal and some rest can be enough; for an indoor activity, check the current entry terms and opening hours. The route from the hotel is not presented here as fully covered or step-free.

Compare the whole stay

For the night by the terminal, add the city nights and the transfer between hotels. For one continuous stay in Tsim Sha Tsui, add the late trip from the airport. Compare the same dates, the same adults and children, and the same tax, breakfast and cancellation terms. Without comparable offers, neither option can be called cheaper.

For the airport night, a small bag with the next day's things saves you opening every suitcase. For the city night, have the late-arrival confirmation and the last leg of the journey ready. The first evening can simply end at the front desk and then in the room; the rest of the trip can start after a proper night's sleep.
